Welcome to Ada Harris School!
Welcome to Ada Harris Elementary We are a school of 400 students in grades 3-6. We are located in the lovely beach community of Cardiff-by-the-Sea. In 2003 our school received the wonderful honor of being recognized as a California Distinguished School. Our dedicated staff members work with families to support our students in maximizing their learning potential. Ada Harris Elementary has 16 regular education teachers and two special education teachers. Our extensive instructional support staff consists of a full time district music teacher, a speech pathologist, a Spanish teacher, a computer lab teacher, a learning resource center instructor, a physical education teacher, a GATE instructional specialist/science teacher, an English language development teacher, four Reading Lab specialists and three special education classroom assistants. In addition, each classroom receives daily support from an instructional aide. Students at Ada Harris Elementary receive high quality, standards-based instruction on a daily basis. Students are challenged in their areas of strength, supported in their areas of difficulty, and provided opportunities to access the curriculum through different learning modalities. Our staff is committed to preparing students for the rigors of middle school and beyond. We value education and are proud of the fact that Ada Harris students routinely score highly on the annual STAR testing each spring. Technology is a focus in the Cardiff School District and Ada Harris students have many opportunities to integrate technology into their educational program. Each classroom is equipped with four up-to-date computers that are connected to the Internet. Students and teachers access out computer lab weekly for directed lessons and activities that are integrated with the core curriculum. In addition, our multi-media lab is regularly in use with students doing video editing and working in various stages of i-Movie projects. Each classroom has four Alpha Smart Pro word processors in addition to the classroom computers so that students may publish their written work. Fifteen laptop computers are available for use, as well as digital cameras, camcorders and a color laser printer. Many of our teachers have class websites, which you are encouraged to visit. A diversified extra-curricular program adds to the overall culture of Ada Harris Elementary. Our wonderful and talented music teacher, Dixie Jacobson, directs the Wildcat Band and they play often for the school and the Cardiff community. After school clubs such as Study Buddies, GATE Academies, Math Tutoring Club and more meet weekly and provide students with an opportunity for enrichment and assistance. Student Council, comprised of representatives from each classroom, meets regularly to plan fun, spirited activities for Ada Harris students. Parent and community volunteers are welcome and encouraged. We are a school community that believes in the value of working together to provide the best experience possible for our students.
