CARDIFF EDUCATION FOUNDATION

What is the CEF?
The Cardiff Education Foundation is an all-volunteer, 501.c3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing the resources necessary to ensure that children in the Cardiff School district receive the best primary education available in San Diego County. Our goal is to create learning environments for Cardiff Kids that are second to none. The CEF, PSO (Parent Staff Organization) and the District work together to coordinate fundraising efforts. The Foundation is a model public-private partnership under the governance of a volunteer Board of Trustees.

What has the CEF accomplished?
Since it was founded in 1991 the CEF has invested over $200,000 to bring technology to our schools. The generosity of CEF donors has enabled the District to offer an exceptionally high level of technology-based learning. Our schools, teachers and students have been recognized locally, state-wide and nationally for their outstanding achievements in technology and serve as models for other schools seeking to improve their technology. In 2001 during Cardiff’s building of the new Ada Harris School and significant re-modeling of Cardiff School the CEF was rejuvenated to focus on our current funding areas: Specialty Programs (PE, Science, Spanish, Technology, Music and Arts), Capital Improvements and growing our Endowment Fund. Since 2001, CEF has successfully raised over $700,000 to contribute to Cardiff Schools, and our endowment stands at nearly $100,000.00."

Why do our schools need the CEF?
With on-going cuts at the State level all School districts struggle to provide the quality education that we all received as kids. Receiving adequate funding to provide the quality educational experience desired by parents, teachers and the community continues to be a challenge even for better funded districts. Private grants and donations substantially increase the District's ability to offer high quality education programs, technology and enrichment. The school bond passed by Cardiff residents in March 2000 built a new Ada Harris School and modernized buildings at Cardiff Elementary School, but did not cover all the needs of our schools on an ongoing basis.

What are the 2006-2007 goals of the CEF?
The Cardiff Education Foundation has set a goal of raising at least $120,000 during the 2006-2007 school year. We are suggesting a donation level of $500 per family and are striving for 30% of our families to contribute to CEF. These goals are stretch goals – but we feel that they are achievable given the strong support of Cardiff families and the Cardiff Community.

With this money we can continue to fund our specialty teachers and programming in PE, Technology, Spanish, Science and Music. This also will enable us to contribute to our growing Endowment fund that is nearing $100,000.00, and contribute to the schools need for Wallball Courts at Ada Harris and replacing our aging laptops in our mobile Laptop computer lab.
