Ms. Katie Yarbrough, Saxophone Coach
Born and raised in Sacramento, California, Katie Yarbrough first found her love of music playing the clarinet in 4th grade. She then switched to saxophone in sixth grade, and continued her study through university. She also plays the piano and accordion. She received both her Bachelors in Music Education and her Single Subject Teaching Credential in Music from California State University, Sacramento. Ms. Yarbrough is currently teaching general music to K-4th grade students in the Cardiff School District. She loves living in San Diego and is excited to be a part of the Wildcat Band!

Brian O’Donnell, Low Brass Coach
Brian O’Donnell, a native of San Diego California, completed his Master of Music Degree in Trombone Performance at SUNY Purchase and his undergraduate degree in music as a full scholarship student at Louisiana State University. He made his Carnegie Hall début in 2004 as soloist with the Carlsbad High School Wind Symphony, and has since performed in major venues throughout the world including Kennedy Center, Copley Symphony Hall, Smetana Hall in Prague, Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Hermitage Theater in St. Petersburg, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York.
Mr. O’Donnell is a multi-faceted musician, at home in both jazz and classical genres. Recent seasons have seen Brian performing with Joe Garrison and Night People, the San Diego Summer Symphony, the Brad Steinwehe Jazz Orchestra, and the San Diego Opera. Mr. O’Donnell is currently on faculty at Point Loma Nazarene University, Palomar College, and spends his summers teaching at the Idyllwild Arts Academy. He maintains a private studio throughout the San Diego area as well as serving as a clinician at many local schools. When not making music he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, cooking, and being outdoors.
A San Diego native, James began his flute studies at age ten. He made his solo debut in 2004, performing for the La Jolla Music Society’s Young Artist Series. Additionally, he made his solo orchestral debut in 2008 playing the Nielsen Concerto with the Roosevelt University Symphony Orchestra (Chicago, IL). He has also performed with the San Diego Symphony, the Canton Symphony Orchestra, the Kent-Blossom Festival Orchestra, and the Orford Festival Orchestra. Competing successfully in several competitions, James has won first place at the Tuesday Musical Association in Ohio, second place at San Diego Flute Guild Young Artist Competition, and has received multiple scholarships the Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego (2006, 2009, 2011, & 2012). Studying under Thomas Robertello at Indiana University, James received a Bachelor of Music in Flute in 2009. He also earned a Master of Music in Flute studying under Joshua Smith at the Cleveland institute of Music in 2011.
