Carolyn Van Lear is a graduate of Point Loma Nazarene University. She has a Bilingual (Spanish) and a Special Education teaching credential from Cal State University San Marcos. She is the coordinator of the Learning Lab. The Learning Lab "provides an opportunity to implement strategies and see students soar with their reading abilities." Carolyn is the mother of 5 year old Chloe. Alicija Petras attended the University of Toronto in Canada and her background is in finance. The Learning Lab "is an exceptional program for children that helps to establish a strong foundation for future reading success. I am so proud to be a part of this incredible program that gives students the self-confidence and sense of accomplishment they deserve." Alicija is the mother of Michael (2nd grade) and John (5th grade). Her children attend Cardiff schools. Becky Escobar earned her degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Kansas before moving to San Diego to pursue a career in teaching. She taught 1st and 2nd grade for four years, then started her own family. She is the mom of Aiden (9), Mason (7), Kathren (6) and Carden (4). She is excited about working in the Learning Lab.
Jamie Machado received her BA from Sonoma State and her teaching credential at Concordia University. Through the Learning Lab she "was able to see the success of the program with her own child. Reading is an important part of learning and being able to teach that to children is rewarding." Jamie is the mother of Austin (2nd grade) and Camryn (5th grade). Her children attend Cardiff schools.
Beth Petrassi attended State University of New York and her background is in biology. The Learning Lab provides her with the opportunity "to help kids using a great program. I like seeing the growth in children." Beth is the mother of Genevieve (4th grade - Ada Harris) and Todd (8th grade - Oak Crest).
