Welcome to Kindergarten at Cardiff School! This is one of the most important years of your child’s academic career, a time when attitudes toward school are formed. Kindergarten helps build a foundation for learning and we can build a strong base by working together. With this in mind, here are some expectations, guidelines, and ideas that will make your child’s introduction to public education a positive experience.

Our playground opens at 8:05 and school starts at 8:15. You may park your car and walk your child in or use the drop-off cut out lane on Mozart. If you choose to use the cut out lane, please remain in your car and pull forward. A teacher will open the car door and guide your child to the playground. Unfortunately, no siblings are allowed on the Kindergarten playground because it will be too crowded.
School is over at 12:15 p.m. Pick-up is at the Mozart gate. Please don’t wait outside the classroom door; you'll distract the kids. The exception is on rainy days when you'll want to stay dry under the awning. Please do not leave your car unattended if you park in the cut out red zone.
Daycare students will be picked up at the classroom and escorted to lunch. Kindergarten students are not allowed to play on any of the playgrounds after school because first through third grades are still learning in their classrooms.
If your child is late getting to school, please check in at the school office before coming to class. The gates are locked 10 – 15 minutes after school starts and you will need to enter through the front office and get a late slip.
Your child will need a healthy snack for our 10:00 a.m. recess. The school does not provide snacks for purchase. Some suggestions are fruits, vegetables, nuts or cheese. Send drinks in non-breakable containers - no glass, please. I recommend sending a reusable water bottle. Students are allowed to keep water bottles at their desks.
If your child buys a cafeteria lunch he/she may eat it at school. There will be an aide on duty to watch your child until 12:30. This is just for our students who buy lunch that day. Children are not allowed to play on the playground during this time.
Parents have the option of setting up a lunch/milk account in the office. Both lunch and milk accounts are debited only when your child uses them, and you’ll receive a notice from the office when the account gets low. Lunches cost $3.50.
Please dress children appropriately for the school setting. Visibly and clearly label sweaters, coats, back packs, etc., with first and last name. Hats are allowed on the playground, but can not be worn in the the classroom.
Birthdays are very special for children. If you would like to send a treat with your child please make the treat is a healthy one. Let me know a couple days before, so I can plan time in our busy schedule. Here are a few ideas: popcorn, smoothies, fruit, frozen bananas, fruit bars...the list is endless.
