LEMONADE BERRY
by Taylor, Andrew I., Shaun, and Sierra
The color of the buds on a Lemonadeberry plant are light red and silky green. The bunches of buds look like pink flowers. There were lots of buds when we saw it in December. Lemonadeberry grows in the coastal sage scrub community, the dry part around the lagoon. The flowers appear in early February and may keep blooming until May. The leaves are leathery and the fruit is sour. The fruit is the shape of corn nuts and is fuzzy and sticky too. It is an aromatic shrub and it is a native plant. The plant is taller than a grown-up.
