SPINY RUSH
by Alea, Mitchell, Spencer and Kendall
Spiny Rush is a salt marsh plant. It can be brown or green. The stems have a sharp tip so stay back. There are no leaves on the plant. Spiny Rush is about as tall as a second grader. Spiny Rush looks like tall grass growing in a bunch like a porcupine. Sometimes there are brownish-gold flowers and fuzzy brown seeds at the tippy top of the spiny stem. Spiny Rush used to be woven into small boats and baskets by the Indians.
