What The Board Does

The Cardiff School District Board of Trustees is the elected governing body responsible for guiding the educational programs, operations, and fiscal management of the District. In partnership with the Superintendent, the Board ensures that Cardiff Schools provide a high-quality education in a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy and Governance - Establish District policies, set goals, and provide direction to maintain academic excellence and legal compliance, while collaborating with the Superintendent to implement them effectively.
  • Budget and Finance - Adopt and oversee the District budget, working with the Superintendent to ensure responsible use of taxpayer funds and long-term fiscal stability.
  • Curriculum and Instruction - Review and approve educational programs, curriculum standards, and instructional materials, with input and recommendations from the superintendent and staff.
  • Personnel Leadership - Hire, evaluate, and support the Superintendent, who in turn manages day-to-day District operations and personnel. The Board works closely with the Superintendent to foster strong leadership across the district.
  • Facilities and Resources - Approve facilities plans, maintenance projects, and resource allocations, coordinating with the Superintendent to ensure schools are safe, modern, and well-equipped.
  • Community Representation - Serve as a bridge between the schools and the community, working with the Superintendent to maintain transparency, strong communication, and responsiveness to students, parents, and our community.

Why It Matters

By working hand-in-hand with the superintendent, the Cardiff School District Board of Trustees plays a vital role in shaping the future of Cardiff Schools. Together, they make decisions that have a direct impact on student achievement, teacher support, and the overall quality of education in the district.
